From interpreting flowing architectural curves to translating natural themes into tactile, livable spaces, this project showcases the firm’s ability to turn vision into visceral experience. We spoke with the team about their design journey, creative challenges, and the layered thought process behind this remarkable home.

  1. What was your initial reaction when you saw the architectural concept for Waterfall House by SG Studio?

Our first encounter with Waterfall House was truly inspiring. The architectural mastery exhibited by SG Studio is both subtle and sophisticated, revealing itself through carefully hidden elements that only become apparent upon closer inspection. The house appeared predominantly geometric and square from afar, yet an intricate symphony of curves unfolded throughout the design. Its structure demanded study and admiration, exemplifying innovation and elegance that warrants recognition and accolades.

  1. How did the natural theme influence your design choices throughout the interiors?

Once we immersed ourselves in the architectural plans and explored the structure—a celebration of curves, we dedicated considerable time on-site to envision how to seamlessly fuse our client’s interior design brief with the house’s natural, organic language. We carefully selected materials such as steel, wood, concrete, and glass to echo the earthy, modern aesthetic, striving to create a cohesive dialogue between the built environment and its natural surroundings.

  1. Flowing curves seem to play a big role in the space. How did you incorporate these into your design language?

From the moment of entry, the design commences with a striking Pandomo column that extends gracefully to the first floor. We introduced oversized, curvaceous swivel mirrors on an oak panel backdrop and custom looped lighting to evoke a whimsical yet refined atmosphere. In the master bedroom, curved oak wall panels create a cocoon-like sanctuary, while the bespoke TV units, crafted with Dekton Reverie in burnt orange veining, serve as continuous, flowing visual elements that embody the essence of curves.

  1. What were some of the key materials or textures you used to echo the organic feel of the home?

We employed a curated selection of textures and materials that evoke warmth and organic resonance, including rich oak, concrete, steel, glass, and high-end upholstery fabrics. These elements were chosen to complement the home’s natural theme, creating tactile and visual harmony throughout the interiors.

  1. Can you walk us through a favourite space or room in the home and what makes it special?

The Master Suite stands out as a personal favourite. Designed as a serene sanctuary, it aims to engage all four senses—sight, hearing, smell, and touch. We used luxurious textures in the upholstery, created seamless wall coves to eliminate harsh corners, and employed a neutral, calming palette. Automated curtains with braided edges, combined with thoughtful lighting, elevate the space into an oasis of comfort and tranquillity, a true retreat that envelops its occupants in calm and elegance.

  1. Were there any unique challenges in designing this house, and how did your team overcome them?

One significant challenge was sourcing the custom-designed rugs, which had to be imported from Jaipur, India. The lead time was frustrating, especially as our client was eager to move in. Our team managed this by maintaining close communication with suppliers and managing expectations diligently, ensuring that the quality and design integrity of each piece were preserved.
