House Tour: A Luxury Home in Southern California
Step inside this luxurious residence, beautifully designed by award wining full service boutique Interior Architecture & Design studio Huma Sulaiman Design in Southern California.
The designer transformed 13,000 square feet in just eight months and turned this home into a luxurious, family-friendly space. Huma Sulaiman Design believes a well-designed space should elevate one’s soul; it should transport, inspire and create fond memories. They set the stage to orchestrate a clients’ dream story.
Furthermore, the studio takes pride in being fearlessly individualistic through their use of material and texture, specifically, the dichotomy between past eras and contemporary style. They believe no two spaces should look alike as no two clients are alike. Designers dive deep into the history, architecture, location, and culture behind each project for it is important to rely on the past to create a clear vision of the future.
A space for the whole family
With the exception of the formal living and dining area, an elegant entertaining space swathed in cream and beige. the young parents asked the designer to create a safe environment for their children where nothing would be off-limits. With two children of her own at home, Sulaiman knew just how to strike the right balance between high design and family-friendly.
She prioritized furniture with soft, curved edges; low-slung modular seating; and performance fabric that could handle inevitable spills. “On a normal day at their house, the furniture is moved into different places and the kids are running around,” she says. “They let the kids go everywhere.”
As much as the deep mossy green performance velvet in the family room was inspired by the surrounding cactus-studded landscape, Sulaiman admits she also considered tiny hands and their respective snacks. “I love that you can’t tell that the kids are enjoying life on this furniture,” Jessica Omid says. Upstairs, she asked Sulaiman to source floor beds for the childrens’ rooms.
Imagining spaces for the children
“When toddlers sleep, they’re just tossing, turning, and rolling around,” Jessica explains. However, the Montessori-style floor beds Sulaiman found online were less than chic. So she took matters into her own hands, designing a channel-tufted frame with an irregular scalloped edge that’s both sophisticated and sweet.
More than a beautiful journey, this brilliant design by Huma Suleiman exemplifies the art of designing a modern family home. The balance between sophistication and family-friendly elements creates a harmonious living experience and a stunning backdrop for the best memories.
By creating a scenario where well-pointed choices walk together with the needs of each inhabitant, more than a dream, this is a home that a family needs.
