Decorex 2023: Invaluable Decor Insights From Kim Williams
Kim Williams Design, the renowned design studio celebrated for its innovative and transformative spaces, left attendees at Decorex Cape Town inspired with their captivating exhibition at the recent Cape Town exhibit. Today Kim shares insights on the world of decor and what we can expect in seasons to come…
Decorex Cape Town showcased the studio’s newest addition, the high-end Noluthando Interior Décor Range, presented and designed by internationally recognised top Cape Town interior designer, creative behaviour strategist and author of My Yellow Room – Kim Williams.
The popular new interior range beautifully marries a traditional weave by fashion designer Jessica Molebatsi, famed for her JessicaJane label. The result is an imaginative fusion that celebrates African culture while emphasising the importance of cultural diversity in creating blended living and lifestyle experiences.
A premier industry event
Commenting on the success of their participation at Decorex, Kim Williams expressed her joy stating, “We have enjoyed every second of being at Decorex. It is without doubt the premier interior design event in the country and always provides designers like us with an incredible opportunity to showcase our high-end designer range, as well as connect and network with fellow industry professionals. We especially enjoyed collaborating with local creatives and industry partners like Evalution Flooring, Tjhoko Paint, Roche Bobois, Robin Sprong, Something Steel, Wire World, Phoenix Signage and Cardinal Flooring to bring the extraordinary vision to life.”
In addition to unveiling the Noluthando Interior Décor Range, Kim Williams also launched the highly anticipated second edition of her acclaimed book, “My Yellow Room” during the four-day event.
This transformative coffee table book delves into the philosophy of interior design and explores how spaces can positively impact our lives. The revised edition features captivating visuals of recent projects and offers readers a comprehensive look into the world of Kim Williams Design, who also proudly announced their four nominations as finalists in the esteemed London International Architecture and Interior Design Awards.
“Being recognised for international awards is not only a dream come true but a humbling experience. It serves as a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovative design solutions, showcasing our dedication to pushing boundaries and setting new trends. It is a huge honour, and we couldn’t be prouder of the work we have achieved to earn this acknowledgement,” says Kim.

Invaluable Décor Insights From Decorex Cape Town 2023:
Following the successful show, Kim Williams shares some valuable insights and predictions that she reflects on from Decorex Cape Town 2023:
Bursts of colour:
We have since 2021 predicted the return of colour and it was joyous to experience a colourful Decorex that showcased a vibrant resurgence of colour, signalling its triumphant return to interior design. From natural grounding tones to rich and bold earthy palettes, colour took centre stage, creating a visually stimulating experience.
Grounding and reconnecting:
The trend of grounding and reconnecting with the planet continues to grow roots and was evident throughout the exhibition, with low seating being used in various spaces. The combination of natural materials and incorporation of crafts underscored the importance of staying connected to nature and circular design.
Micro-living:
Small spaces and space-saving furniture that embraces minimalism in a unique and beautiful way continues to pick up traction, catering to the needs of apartment living in compact environments and the need for mult-functional spaces.
Cocoon living:
Clear illustrations of a cohesive lifestyle and living were prevalent, with the use of natural fibres as a base to add comfort and warmth to inviting cocoon-spaces that create a sense of comfort and cosiness.
Fusion of green luxury:
Decor themes featured a delightful blend of indigenous greenery, both natural and artificial, alongside elements that exuded a sense of luxury and opulence. The fusion of chic design, Afrocentric arts, and handcrafted items made bold statements about personal style.
Seamless spaces:
Stone and surfaces reflecting the overall design aesthetic, with a trend towards inlaid furniture, built-in wall coverings, and shelving is back. These seamlessly designed spaces were ready to move into, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
