Synergy in Style: Design Space Creates Striking SA Decor Stand at Decorex 2023

The opportunity to showcase our wares at South Africa’s leading design events is always a great honour. This year SA Decor & Design – The Buyer’s Guide had the privilege of partnering with Design Space by Jonathan Rabe, together with a number of industry-leading brands, in a wonderful display of talent at an exhibition stall at both Decorex Cape Town and Joburg.

As a design authority, Decorex presents a highly curated offering that sets the benchmark for pioneering designs, products and services, and attracts the highest calibre of audience. With this in mind, our team at SA Decor & Design called upon the experts from Design Space by Jonathan Rabe to create an inviting stall to showcase our work and engage with the public and industry at large.

The Brief

The brief was to create a space that would showcase various art forms and finishes from the interior design industry whilst also showcasing the SA Décor & Design Buyers Guide Anniversary Issue. The aim was also to offer visitors an immersive and engaging experience.

The design team incorporated clean lines, minimalistic elements, and an emphasis on lighting techniques to provide a neutral backdrop for the Book and Furniture elements to shine. Using innovative lighting techniques and interactive installations added an extra layer of dynamism to the space.

Integration and Collaboration

The Concept for the Exhibition Stand was derived from integration and collaboration. The entire stand was therefore designed around the focal points on the stand – the Guide displayed on a finned Bookcase, combining both contemporary and classical elements into one space. The team decided on the use of the Egger Halifax Oak Finish, a more vintage element used in a contemporary setting and the Occulus wall creating the illusion that you are looking through a looking glass at the forecasted SA Décor & Design Anniversary Issue. The Issue itself was thus displayed on the illuminated Black Powder coated and glass display shelves. This created a residential library look or even a retail display for the Anniversary Issue. The Egger Floor from Azzura Distributors presented us with a rustic wooden floor as a canvas on which all the other elements could be showcased and was beautifully finished off with rose gold trim.

The Okha Couch and the Chandelier from Willowlamp form an integral part of the design of the stand. The concept encapsulates the use of negative space around the centrally placed features and the great Infinity Bulkhead with contemporary lighting by Lights by Linea. These strip lighting and downlighters illuminate the Bookcase and the bulkhead feature which creates rhythm and flow within the repetitive lines, shapes and textures. The high-end laminate finishes from Egger and Novodecor together with the high-end eclectic contemporary pieces from Roche Bobois and SHF helped to style the stand for an upmarket audience and fused all the elements symphonically together.

Showstopping finishes

Furthermore, the team introduced two finishes from Novodecor on the back wall of the stand to encapsulate what SA Décor & Design and Design Space by Jonathan Rabe are all about… finding and supplying upmarket finishes for interiors across the continent and the world. The Rythmic CNC cut out panel and construction by Roetscraft had a monumental appeal at the show in its rustic form and simplicity, keeping in line with the Decorex brief this year related to sustainability and being cautious to the environment.

Thanks to our sponsors

We would like to thank the additional sponsors on the stand including EL Solar for their contribution to our sustainable approach to the industry and how they are helping to combat the energy crisis in South Africa. We also extend a heartfelt thanks to Mogan Art for all the graphic work,  technical editing and content, as well as Bonaad Advertising for all the vinyl cut-out logos and Max Lanz for Photography.

The concept is thus to showcase infinite possibilities, collaboration and the latest trends in the industry. We could not have down this without our partners and a special thanks to Design Space by Jonathan Rabe for making this dream a reality.

It’s a great day when industry professionals and top local brands come together to pull off a feat of this kind. We are proud to be associated with these top suppliers and we are thrilled to be able to showcase their talents to the world.
