CF Architects: Outdoor Room Design Trends: Creating Inviting Extensions of the Indoors
Outdoor spaces have become quintessential extensions of our homes and require even more thought and design to seamlessly blend style with functionality. Our challenge was bringing indoor sophistication and existing colour palettes to the outside – turning terraces, patios, and balconies into an inspirational space ready for summer.
- Versatile Outdoor Dining
Versatile outdoor dining is redefining how we use our exterior spaces, with adaptable furniture that caters to a range of gatherings. From modular dining tables that extend to seat larger groups, to adjustable-height tables that easily transition from casual coffee spots to formal dining setups, these pieces are built for flexibility. Designers are embracing foldable chairs and stackable stools, allowing homeowners to maximize space while adding extra seating whenever needed. We absolutely love the Cielo Patio Dining Set. - Eco-friendly Elements
Sustainability is a cornerstone of outdoor design. From reclaimed wood panelling to sustainably sourced planters and vertical garden walls, eco-friendly touches are more accessible than ever. Water-wise landscaping, native plants, and innovative irrigation systems are also trending in water-scarce Gauteng, thus enhancing outdoor aesthetics while minimizing water usage.
3. Bringing the Indoors Outside with Appliances
Outdoor spaces are embracing the warmth and flavour of indoor comforts, with braai places and pizza ovens transforming patios into lively, year-round entertainment areas. The braai, a beloved tradition, brings a sense of South African culture to outdoor gatherings, providing both a cooking space and a communal spot for friends and family. Lava Fires has provided a high-quality stainless steel outdoor braai perfect for the braai and potjie events. Adding a pizza oven takes this culinary experience to another level, inviting guests to enjoy the art of crafting fresh, homemade pizzas in the open air. Together, these elements create a welcoming and versatile outdoor kitchen, where delicious meals and great company come together naturally.
- Statement Lighting
LED lighting is transforming outdoor spaces, bringing both style and energy efficiency to patios, terraces, and gardens. LED downlights, mounted above or recessed into ceilings, provide focused illumination for dining and entertainment areas, enhancing functionality while maintaining a sleek look. Wall-mounted LED lights are another popular choice, offering gentle washes of light along walls and accentuating architectural features. Together, these lighting solutions create a layered, visually dynamic outdoor environment perfect for any evening gathering.
