CF Architects: Designing Inspired Homes

Architecture is the art of shaping dreams into spaces. Every blueprint is a testament to the power of creativity transforming the ordinary into something incredible.

Today we have the honour of speaking with Curtis Fleur from CF Architects – a brand known for its innovative architectural services among architects in Gauteng. Nestled in the heart of Johannesburg, specifically Bryanston and Sandton, this contemporary architectural studio embodies a hands-on approach to design and home renovations. Their focus lies in crafting spaces that exceed expectations, making the studio a sought-after choice for residential architects in Johannesburg. With a keen focus on both contemporary and traditional homes, they aim to bring your unique requirements to life through meticulous architectural planning.

Let’s hear from Curtis…

What inspires you and helps you create such beautiful interiors and architecture?

When meeting clients for the first time I am a blank canvas. I allow the clients’ visions and desires to inspire me so that I may act as a vessel for their desires and wishes. Once we have defined their vision, I then allow my own personal experiences, travels and exploration to fine-tune and enhance their unspoken wishes into a final space that is as unique as they are.

You are known for your classical contemporary spaces. What draws you to create this look with such pizzazz and confidence?

As a designer, I have always been drawn to the juxtaposition of classical and contemporary spaces and furniture. At these crossroads, you find a moment of excitement and peace. Finding this balance is what I love.

Which interior designers/architects have influenced your interior style?

I do admire and am influenced by Steven Graham and Clinton Savage. Their blend of Classical Style and Fresh, Bold colour choices are most captivating and inspiring.

What is your personal style preference?

Personally, I enjoy and find beauty in elegant and timeless spaces – spaces where a change in soft furnishings like cushions, curtains, and accent lighting can transform the space from season to season.

Tell us more about the latest project that you have recently completed.

Most recently I completed a full renovation for high-level diplomats. Their brief was simple, and they gave me complete freedom to execute the brief. They desired a space that they could call home when they were not travelling abroad. The space needed to be warm but minimalist – where their collectables could be their expressions of their family, their joys, and their values. And to add on top of that I only had six weeks to gut and transform their entire home.

My favourite thing to buy for my home is…

At home, my partner and I enjoy making and collecting memories. Collectables either bought or found while travelling, exploring a city or even walking on the beach are treasures and find their place on a display shelf. Memories and stories are precious and add to the authenticity of your space.

The easiest effective design technique is…

Well, deciding on a theme or style palette and sticking with it immensely simplifies the design journey. Once this decision has been made almost all other changes and conflicting ideas can be eliminated.

My biggest design mistakes are…

Not pushing the limits of design as frequently as I should. I have learned that clients are conservative and if you push them out of their comfort zone to be authentic, they are happier for it at the end of the project.

Your design Motto…

“Express Yourself” – A house is not a living and breathing home until you fully express yourself through it.
