ARRCC: Inside The Villa that struck GOLD in this year’s Wan Awards
Renowned globally for their breathtaking work, the creatives behind Cape Town-based interior-design studio, ARRCC, have struck gold again. This time, walking away with the coveted title of Residence of the Year at this year’s World Architecture News (WAN) Awards.
Showcasing the designers’ signature approach of blending function and aesthetic, utilising natural materials and creating a flowing structure that harmonises with its surroundings, Wave Villa at the foot of Lion’s Head in Cape Town features a sculptural roof design from which the build takes its name. Inspired by the natural landscape, the undulating design floats above the steel framework and draws in views of the surrounding mountains, enriching the home’s connection with the environment.
Commenting on the winning design, ARRCC Director Jon Case says: “The floating, wave-inspired roof design is the project’s unique selling point, symbolising the home’s integration with the landscape and acting as a focal feature in modern architectural design.”
A WAN Awards judge adds: “There is a strong sense of visual connectedness, with the beauty of the surrounding context being highly appreciable and inspiring. It’s clear that the residents deeply value their engagement with nature.”
This is the second win for ARRCC at the awards – the studio’s iconic farmhouse-inspired home, Winelands Villa, also received a Residential Category win in the WAN EMEA division of this award last year.
