2025 Decor Trends

Interior design by De Rosee Sa

New year, new you, or in our case, new room.

With fabulous trends on the horizon, how can a home makeover not be on the cards? To help inspire your inner designer, here’s a closer look at the hottest interior design and decor trends for 2025.

Spaces with Personality

…Your personality. Heralding a break from the mass-produced, a more individualistic approach to decorating is emerging in 2025. Spaces that express their owner’s or inhabitants’ preferences are on the up, from personal snapshots to a harmonious use of existing furniture pieces, it is all about expressing yourself with what you have instead of over-stylised schemes.

As Australian interior designer Tali Roth notes: “I think people are leaning more practical because of the worldwide financial climate. However, the clientele who are investing in decorating and interior design also want to have something unique to them, and are attempting to create spaces that last and have substance.”

Bolder is Better

Bold hues and maximalist design statements are another hot trend in 2025. Think rich, moody palettes and unexpected material pairings that bring a bold freshness to interior spaces.

“From vibrant colour choices and juxtaposing textures to custom furniture, objects, and art – pieces that are bold, push the boundary and are filled with personality,” is what is attracting attention, says designer Sally Knibbs.

Colour, Colour, and More Colour

It’s back, bigger and bolder – 2025 is the year of colour. “The past few years have had a strong focus on deep colour saturations, and in turn, also stark,white-toned spaces,” says interior designer Brahman Perera. “We’re now finding a middle ground of verdant green tones, numbers, and soft warm-toned neutrals.”

Look out for unusual colour combos, bold patterns and contrasting pairings such as maroon and soft blue.

Local is Lekker

Designers and homeowners alike are embracing their roots more and more, favouring local materials, makers, and artists above international names.

“I think it stems from the overarching desire to incorporate really unique pieces into their home and have that point of difference,” notes Perera of the trend.

Smart(er) Homes

In 2025, the blend of cutting-edge technology and thoughtful design is set to redefine our living spaces, making them both stunning and incredibly practical. Smart homes are taking a giant leap forward, with breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, seamless automation and enhanced connectivity revolutionising the way we experience and engage with our surroundings. Think integrated smart systems such as lighting that adjusts with your daily routine to refrigerators that notify you when you’re out of groceries and invisible tech like TVs that double as art pieces or retract into ceilings when not in use, as well as wellness-focused technology, such as circadian lighting systems that mimic natural daylight patterns to improve sleep.
