Plascon House Tour: The Naturalist
This beautiful Victorian abode has the hallmarks of its time: high ceilings with pretty detailing, and dark wooden floors. What separates this home from the rest is the naturalist approach to decor.
The Victorian-era shuffled in new ideas of science and a desire to find out all one could about the natural world. It was quite common for learned gentlemen and women to draw inspiration from the flora and fauna around them. From pin-cushion butterfly collections, to hand-drawn diagrams of elaborate flowers, this era was somewhat romantic in its quest for knowledge.
This space is indeed inspired by this age-old fascination with the natural world. From antique world maps, to insect diagrams as framed artwork and even a deer-inspired stuffing- this homeowner has maintained the integrity of the past with touches of modernity.
We see plenty of wood and splashy chandeliers competing with more modern lighting, and soft neutral wall colours. The result: a home that would make Charles Darwin proud.
