MMT by Design: A Sophisticated Mancave Collaboration
A recent collaboration between Mike Made This and Form Interiors saw a bland basement transform into a sophisticated mancave. The project was a residential brief for a bachelor, a project taken on by JHB-based, Interior Designer, Erica Schalkwyk and her business, Form Interior Décor & Design.
“The client wanted a man cave that was both a movie/ sport cinema and a bar area,” commented Erica. The project was started in July and completed in September 2017. The space was about creating something that combined homely elements with an industrial feel. Mike’s experience with combining wood and steel in his manufacturing process is what brought together the collaboration between MMT & Form Interior. Mike made the cabinets from powder coated steel, as well as the shelves with custom built wine racks and glass holders. The countertops were made from Jax Oleum sealed oak wood for a minimalist industrial finish. Erica incorporated accents of ‘bling’ with light fittings and mirrors to liven up the space. Of course, the proof at the end of the day is in how much a space actually gets used and Erica happily confirms that this slant on a sophisticated mancave has become a regular hang out spot for the client. The result: striking, manly and oh so sophisticated! Contact: MMT
