Mambo’s Storage Hacks For Your Craft Room
Do you consider yourself a creative person? Do you like crafting and DIY? Then you may know the battle of how and where to store all your crafting supplies. We bring you a guide to creating a streamlined craft room with these storage hacks and essentials from Mambo’s.
Declutter
If you don’t already have a dedicated crafting space, then it’s time to create one. Start by decluttering a room, or section in a room, that you can use just for crafts. Get rid of everything that doesn’t fit this theme and ensure you have some space carved out to create a special area for your creative ideas to come to life. The way you do this can differ depending on the size and layout of your craft area, but there are a few general tips that you should consider for all spaces:
Measure
Before you start adding furniture to your craft space, it’ll be a good idea to measure up the area so you will know what you can deck it out with. This in turn will help you determine how much storage you actually need. Storage like drawers, cupboards and even baskets should be clearly measured to ensure they fit into your space.
A table top:
You will most likely need a solid surface on which to get creative. A desk or work table are usually the best choices here, but these can also take up space. So, be sure to include this into your measurements before you plan the entire room. Your table should be in an easily accessible space with ample lighting. An added bonus is built-in storage on your table or desk where you can add trays, plastic containers and more for smaller items.
Easy reach:
Although you might not be able to control the size of your crafting space, you’ll need to ensure a good layout where you can easily reach everything you need. It’s no use packing your supplies in high cupboards or out of reach where you will never be able to find them when you need them. Plus, feeling boxed in might hinder or restrict your creativity, so it’s a good idea to put your crafting desk in a position that can be accessed easily from both sides and isn’t surrounded by heaps of craft storage boxes.
Light up your craft room:
Crafting requires a lot of concentration. Invest in good quality lighting near your crafting station so you can maximise the space. Task lighting is a great option here, especially if it can help you work more efficiently.
Sorting things:
Create a storage system whereby crafting supplies are stored in categories. Keep things like ribbons and threads together in one compartment. Stationery trays are great for sorting pens, markers and crayons into neat piles which are easily accessible. Depending on your crafting preference, invest in a storage system that will adequately house all of your goods into neat zones. This will keep it in order and help you stay organised.
