Harrods Interior Design Unveils Exclusive Wallpaper Collection In Collaboration With Cole & Son
Harrods Interior Design, a quintessentially British interior design studio, proudly announces the launch of the Couture Carousel collection in collaboration with luxury wallpaper and fabrics masters Cole & Son, commemorating Harrods’ illustrious 175 years of style. This exclusive launch pays homage to Harrods’ rich heritage and the world of haute couture.
Founded as an East End grocer and tea merchant in 1834 by Charles Henry Harrod, Harrods has a rich and storied past, becoming synonymous with British culture. Housing exclusive collections since the early 19th century, the Terracotta Palace has stood as the ultimate destination for high fashion. To honour Harrods’ unwavering position in the industry, this collection features croquis drawings accented against the unmistakable backdrop of the Harrods windows.
Design inspirations
The muse of this collection is vintage Harrods magazine covers, displaying exquisite fashion illustrations in both vibrant and muted watercolours. Designers at both Harrods Interior Design and Cole & Son drew inspiration from the renowned covers, creating bespoke designs that narrate a journey through high-fashion trends over the years.
From the 1950s and 60s, characterised by a return to more feminine and glamorous designs, to the rise of haute couture in the 1980s and 90s, where fashion was more experimental and avant-garde, the Couture Carousel pattern showcases all styles, embodying Harrods as the home of unparalleled choice.
Subtle references to the magic of Harrods are woven delicately into the design, capturing the department store’s evolution over the past 175 years. Henry the Bear, this year’s anniversary mascot, features in the wallpaper’s pattern to signify the enchanting legacy of Harrods, a place of wonder for young and old alike. Other allusions to the extraordinary history of Harrods are a grand pearl necklace symbolising the exquisite jewellery halls, and a poodle referencing the whimsical dog grooming parlour. From its origins as a purveyor of rare goods to the world-renowned Egyptian escalators depicting The Night Sky with Zodiacal Figures by designer William George Mitchell, Harrods’ influence extends far beyond the famed Knightsbridge location.
Colour palettes
Designed on the premise of Omnia Omnibus Ubique (“all things for all people, everywhere”), the collection is available in six distinct colourways in a mica finish.
Bold and vibrant, the Bright Multi colourway celebrates individuality and creativity, mirroring the dynamic spirit of Harrods. The distinctive windows add depth and dimension, showcasing the design in a kaleidoscope of colour.
Channelling the magnificence of Harrods’ iconic façade, the China Blue scheme encapsulates the very essence of luxury.
In the Pastel colourway, the soft hues create a realm of tranquillity. The muted colours allow the intricate croquis drawings to take centre stage.
Indulge in the chic sophistication of our Blush design, infusing softness into any space. Perfect for refined dressing or powder rooms, its allure will enhance your décor effortlessly.
The Lavender colourway is one of grace, regal elegance and calm.
Crafted for those who embrace minimalism, the Monochrome palette is tailored for the discerning fashionista who values simplicity and subtlety.
Pastel, China Blue, Lavender & Blush colourways are available in a sophisticated and contemporary matte finish. The Couture Carousel collection extends to complementary cushions, available in Monochrome, Pastel, Lavender, and Blush. Each cushion is backed and piped with Cole & Son’s exceptional Colour Box Velvet, elevating the look and feel of any room.
Letitia Fitzgibbon, Head of Interior Design Studio, comments: “Cole & Son are the perfect partner to have collaborated with in the celebration of Harrods 175th anniversary.
