Purveyors of quintessential English and Cape-Cod style furniture and home decor, New England Design is all about “porches with swinging benches, houses with shingled facades, pagoda-style umbrellas and loads of rattan”.
“New England Design was born from our love for beautiful home decor with a distinctive Cape Cod feel,” says the company.
“Our designs blend classic influences with modern lines, striking elements to make you fall in love, to the level of everyday most quiet need, whether by sun, candlelight or lighthouse.”
To help bring their signature Cape Cod-style home, here the team share some decorating tips.
Choose the correct architectural details
Cape Cod homes are characterised by steep roofs with gables, large dormer windows, double-hung windows, wood shutters and clapboard or wood-shingle siding.
While it may not be possible to change all the architectural elements of a home, be sure to try and incorporate one or two of these design details.
Opt for coastal colours
Whether inside or out, traditional coastal colours work best when decorating in the Cape Cod style. Think white and sand hues, ocean blues and sage greens. A pop of sunny yellow, sunset orange or vibrant coral also works well.
Choose textured materials
Rattan, burlap, thick-woven linen, grasscloth, wood, natural stone and textured wallpaper all work well in Cape Cod designs, creating a warm, natural setting.
Opt for rustic furnishings and fittings
Antique or second-hand furniture, vintage linen and copper accessories (including burnished copper taps and handles) are great options as it imbues an interior with character and charm.
Add nautical accessories
What would a beach house be without some seashells, driftwood and other nautical-inspired accessories?
You could also choose to incorporate fabrics or artwork with seashell, lighthouse or other ocean-inspired patterns into your design.
