Annie Sloan: Chalk Paint For The Soul
What strange times we are living in. We hope that you are doing everything you can to remain safe. Here we share some Chalk Paint inspiration to keep you busy while in quarantine, with tips and more from Annie Sloan.
You can find a blog here including projects that might be useful whilst in quarantine – there’s Part 1 and Part 2 – for your own mental health, to entertain the children, and to make your home a lovely place to be for the foreseeable future.
Some ideas to keep you inspired at home:
Beautiful, expressive painting here by Dingley Dell Creative. The leaf shapes in Chalk Paint® are in Old White on the Aubusson Blue and Provence blended background. This kind of freehand line drawing can be very calming, and you’ll be surprised how easily the doodles come with practice. Try your hand in a sketchbook first and see what shapes and designs you come up with then consider taking the plunge and applying paint to furniture! If you have Detail Brushes you can watch the following videos, each of which shows a different shape the brushes can be used to make. There’s a blossom pattern, a bone inlay suggestion, and the achingly cool, delightfully simple paint splodge terrazzo look.
This malachite effect stool is something Annie Sloan painted for the step-by-step section of her Bookazine, The Colourist. Perhaps you have some paint at home already. This quick explanation of Annie’s technique on the Inspiration Page on her website should help with this particular project, too – as will this Facebook Live video.
Finally, this chest of drawers is by Verdigreen, a fabulous Annie Sloan Stockist based in the US. They’re currently working on building not one, but two guesthouses, which as you can imagine are absolute treasure troves of Chalk Paint® inspiration and creativity. This dresser not least amongst them!
Another free hand floral design here, trailing from the chest to the floor in charming, fairy-tale fashion. To give extra cohesion the chest of drawers itself has been given a white wash of Old White – giving a softer look to an otherwise quite formal piece of furniture. Bellissima!
