Unique Boys: Timber or Upholstered Headboards

Timber and upholstered headboards offer plenty of ways to give a bedroom its own personality. When choosing a headboard, there are plenty of options to consider. With the right design, even the simplest bed can become a beautiful centrepiece, setting the tone for everything from the bedding to the bedside furniture.

Handcrafted and bespoke

At Unique Boys, the headboard collection brings together handcrafted timber designs, upholstered options and bespoke furniture, with plenty of opportunities to create something that suits the space and personal style.

For those drawn to wood’s natural beauty, the Classic All-Brown Kiaat Headboard is a particularly appealing choice. Handcrafted in South Africa from solid Kiaat, it celebrates the timber’s rich colour and distinctive grain. As a result, every piece is slightly different. Its classic shape works as well in a contemporary bedroom as in a more traditional setting. Furthermore, the custom sizing and finishing options allow it to be tailored to the room.

Pair it with crisp white linen, an olive-green throw and warm bedside lighting for a bedroom that feels relaxed and inviting. A few textured cushions and natural accessories will highlight the timber’s richness without overwhelming the space.

The Oak Classic Style Headboard offers another way to introduce natural materials into the bedroom. Its understated design makes it a versatile starting point for a softer, neutral palette, particularly when paired with layered bedding, textured fabrics and complementary bedside furniture.

Need added warmth?

For those who prefer something a little softer, an upholstered headboard brings a different kind of warmth. Fabric adds texture and comfort, creating a lovely backdrop for cushions and layered bedding. Through Unique Boys bespoke furniture service, selected designs can be customised in size, fabric, timber and finish, making it easier to create a piece that feels right for the home.

Of course, choosing a headboard isn’t only about colour and material. Proportions matter too. The width of the bed, the height of the mattress and how the headboard will sit alongside the bedside tables should all be considered. A taller, more generous design can make a statement in a spacious room, while a simpler silhouette may suit a smaller bedroom better.

Unique Boys manufactures its custom furniture at its factory in Kya Sands, Gauteng. Here skilled craftspeople bring individual designs to life. Clients can share their inspiration, measurements and preferred materials with the team, who can help develop the design, specifications and quotation. Nationwide delivery options are also available.

From solid Kiaat and oak to beautifully upholstered designs, the collection offers plenty of inspiration for creating a personal bedroom. Adding a pair of bedside pedestals, favourite lamps and a few finishing touches can help create a space that feels welcoming and inviting.
