The Mattress Warehouse and Feng Shui
Sleep plays an integral part of our daily routine – and our health. Our physical, emotional and psychological well-being are all closely tied to how well – or poorly – we sleep.

It is, quite literally, the stuff of dreams.
To help clients achieve a peaceful night’s sleep, here The Mattress Warehouse and Feng Shui expert Suxanne Roynon, explains how to transform your bedroom into a sleep sanctuary using Feng Shui and Interiors Therapy principles.
Invest in a quality bed and mattress “This one is all about comfort and well-being,” says Suzanne.
“The average mattress will be saggy after 8 years of regular use, and yet in so many homes, the bed is well past its best. Occupants potentially have back pain and struggle to sleep but are oblivious to the age of the bed, they think it’s just something they have to live with. That’s nonsense! Choose a replacement which will suit your anticipated requirements for the next eight years of your life and enjoy the zzzzzzz.”
Choose a firm, comfy headboard.
Feng Shui recommends a wooden headboard that can psychologically support the head and neck during sleep. For comfort, add some padding.
Go for matching nightstands.
Another principle of Feng Shui is balance and harmony. For this reason, it’s best to opt for two similar bedside cabinets or tables. The symmetry will help your subconscious mind relax.
Keep the space under your bed tidy
“In an ideal world, the space under the bed would be kept clear and clean to allow air and ‘chi’ (life force energy) to flow freely around the room,” explains Suzanne.
That may not always be possible though, with space being in short supply in many homes. Suzanne advises keeping out-of-season clothes, bed linens, spare duvets and towels under the bed as these items are neutral and won’t compromise sleep.
The things to avoid are books, paperwork, shoes and boots, tech and sports equipment, toys, photographs and mementoes – anything which stimulates your thought processes.
Choose bedroom lightly wisely
Soft lighting is best in bedrooms. Avoid blue lights (and screens!) before bed to prepare for sleep. During the day, task lights can support daily activities such as makeup application. It’s also advisable to invest in quality blackout curtains or blinds to prevent streetlights and other lights from disrupting your sleep during the night.
