How to Choose the Best Mattress for Your Apartment

Choosing the best mattress for your apartment is extremely important. Without a good bed, you probably won’t get enough sleep to successfully make it through the day. However, selecting the right one can seem impossible with so many options out there. To help make the process easier, here’s how to choose the best mattress for your apartment.

Depending on the space available in your apartment, mattress size may be a concern. Furthermore, a smaller bed may be easier to get into your new home.

Mattress sizes range from Twin to King and California King. However, taller individuals may need a larger bed regardless to accommodate their frame. Additionally, choosing the right bed frame could help save space, while also complementing your desired aesthetic.

Think about what position you sleep in

Another important consideration is the position in which you sleep. People either sleep on their stomach, side, or back. In some cases, the individual may rotate among these positions, and therefore, would be considered a combination sleeper. While stomach and back sleepers may prefer medium-firm to firm beds, side sleepers tend to go for mattresses with a soft to medium firmness level.

Evaluate your budget

Your budget will also play a major role in your decision-making process. The upside, though, is that through online direct-to-consumer sales, many top manufacturers have been able to provide shoppers with lower prices for their products. As a result, you should have no issue finding a top-quality mattress at a budget-friendly price.

Think about your sleep needs

Do you have sensitive pressure points? Are you prone to back pain? These are a few of the health-related questions you’ll need to ask yourself. Most beds offer an excellent combination of pressure relief and support.

However, certain individuals may need a softer or firmer bed that prioritizes one over the other a bit more. For example, people who carry significantly more weight typically prefer firmer mattresses that provide ample support to keep their spine in good alignment. Conversely, lightweight sleepers tend to enjoy softer pressure-relieving beds that don’t feel as hard.

Additionally, shoppers should think about the bed’s construction, specifically whether it’s a foam mattress or a hybrid. Foam mattresses can provide a great sleep experience. However, hybrids are known for delivering exceptional and more advanced support.

Take into account any allergies

Many manufacturers offer hypoallergenic products that should work well for folks with allergies. They include antimicrobial materials that are resistant to allergens like dust mites. For example, latex is a common hypoallergenic material in bedding. However, some people are allergic to latex, so you need to consider this when shopping for your new bed.

Consider your lifestyle and preferences

Lastly, you need to think about your lifestyle and personal preferences. For example, if you are moving in with a partner, you’ll likely require a bed that’s big enough for both of you, such as a Queen, King, or California King.

Couples need to also consider features like motion isolation and edge support. For instance, if you and your partner have different sleep schedules or one of you is a light sleeper, motion isolation could help prevent one person from disturbing the other. Edge support helps ensure a strong perimeter around the sides of the bed. It’s an important feature because it allows both individuals to access the bed’s full surface space so that each of you can easily spread out.

If you’re a hot sleeper, you’ll likely prefer a bed that has excellent cooling features, or if you’re an eco-conscious shopper, you may opt for something that’s made from more natural materials. Additionally, people with limited mobility could benefit from a bed with bounce, which typically allows for easier repositioning.
