Choosing doors for every room in the house

Today we are talking doors. Closet doors, entry doors and even bathroom and kitchen cabinet doors. Doors are key elements when it comes to finishing off an interior style and complementing a look of a room. Here’s our guide to choosing quality doors for every room in your house.

In the kitchen

Kitchen cabinets are not only functional in assisting us to cover up our pantry items and keep our mix-and-match crockery out of sight, but these also add to the overall aesthetic of the room.

What is the style of your kitchen? Is it eclectic, modern, farmhouse, industrial or antique? Whatever the overall interior design of the room – this will help you choose a finish for those all-important kitchen doors.

Painted, moulded or even in a raw wood or metallic finish – choose cabinet doors that can be easily maintained and won’t quickly date. You want something that will last in a busy kitchen – something that can be easily cleaned from the everyday spills and messes that may occur in a kitchen. After all, the kitchen is the heart of the home.

In the bathroom Similar to the kitchen, your bathroom cabinets and doors should complement the overall style of the room. Choose something sleek and neutral that will work with any colour and design scheme. Bathroom cabinets are often installed for function rather than style – somewhere in which to hide your toiletries, medicines and cleaning supplies. However, this does not mean that you need to crimp on style completely. Choose something that you love and that will add aesthetic appeal in the room rather than detract from the other stylistic elements and fixtures already in place in your bathroom.

In the bedroom We love wardrobes and with so many options available today, there truly is a closet style to suit every personality. Whether wood, painted, mirrored or finished in fabric or even wallpaper, your bedroom cupboards are the perfect item in which to experiment with a style that will suit your tastes. For a more weathered look, choose antique door knobs and an aged paint technique on your cupboard doors. If you prefer a contemporary and sleek design, perhaps choose a neutral colour palette and sophisticated metal finishes for handles. The options are endless so decide upfront on what you love and how to best incorporate this into your existing space.

Entryways Doors are great for privacy and separation in the home. If you want to shut out the rest of the world, simply close the door behind you and take retreat in your own room. In many cookie-cutter homes, bedroom and entryway doors are standard and boring – usually white or wooden and varnished. But this doesn’t have to stay this way. Why not paint your interior doors in a matching hue to complement your interior. Black and even grey doors are very much on trend at the moment.
