What Makes a Quality Coffee Table?

Are you looking for the right coffee table to fit your living room? Here we share some top tips to help you select a quality coffee table to suit your space.

Here’s what you need to think about before purchasing a coffee table:

Style

Coffee tables may just be one of the most fun items of furniture to go shopping for. The reason is that there are so many different styles of coffee tables. Now depending on if you’re shopping for your own home or for your office the styles in which you are going to choose may matter. If you are going to be shopping for a coffee table for the house you may want something casual. Although it may be casual this doesn’t mean it has to lack style.

A coffee table is usually placed in the middle of  the living room. It may also be placed in a study room. When having guests over their eyes are usually drawn to the coffee table because it’s right in the middle of the room when they first walk in it.  It’s also in a room that is used for entertaining guests. So depending on which room in the house is going to vary on if you want a casual coffee table or perhaps something a little more striking.

Now if you are shopping for your office you may want something sleek, modern, and sexy. These styles may range from modern-day art looking to old-fashioned ancient time looking. The style in which the coffee table reflects the quality because if it is aesthetically pleasing your house guest or client will be left with an impression of your taste and style which equals quality.

Material

Almost anyone can tell the quality of a coffee table by its materials. If a coffee table is thin and flimsy, scratched or wobbly or just plain ugly the impression is of low quality. However, if a coffee table is made of a nice bronze metal or high-quality steel looking washed or antique the impression left is of high quality. The same goes in regards to the wood material used to make a coffee table. Some tables are made from cheap wood that falls apart easily.

Another telltale sign of a cheap quality coffee table is when you can see the water marks on the wood. Sometimes the wood may even look soggy and waterlogged. Of course, coasters are always a good idea in preserving the quality of a coffee table. But if you invest in a high-quality material coffee table whether it be made of wood, glass or metal you are sure to never leave a bad impression on anyone or on the coffee table itself.

It is important to shop for a coffee table at a trusted and reputable furniture company. There are also some well-known antique shops known by niche coffee table owners and sellers.

History

History plays a part in assessing the quality of a coffee table. A coffee table is often the first piece of furniture noticed when walking into a room, which makes it a talking piece. If the coffee table has a history it improves the quality of the table because of the lousy guests to admire the story behind the table.

Depending on the last owner of the coffee table makes for a great story. Some coffee tables have been owned by famous people from the early 19th 20th and 21st century. If the coffee table was owned by a well-known person in history it is sure to be talked about when entering the room by the owner of the coffee table.

No matter what the material or the style this alone gives the coffee table it’s value which in essence makes quality coffee tables. When it comes to coffee tables with history some seek out expert antique sellers, collectors and buyers. It all depends on the preference of the buyer as to which quality coffee table they are looking for.

So when deciding as to which coffee table is right for you, you may want to look into the style, material, and history of the coffee tables.
