Plascon House Tour: An Inspired, Soulful Home
The former home of Jimi Hendrix, today’s stylish retreat is an inspired soulful home – the residence of owner John Hitchcox.
Open plan living forms the foundation of this home. Once an old Victorian home, today it is filled with interesting pieces and modern furniture, mostly from Yoo Studio. Here interesting finishes, colours and textures work together to add appeal.
In an interview, Hitchcox says, “I’m a major music buff, so when I discovered that Jimi Hendrix used to live in my house and it was an inspiration for his hit Purple Haze, it seemed a very good reason to buy it.”
The kitchen is a fun space with textured wooden cabinetry and a large island that can easily seat guests. The owners wanted a home that they could entertain in, so all living areas were designed to accommodate visitors and create an open, welcoming feel.
The dining area is a magical space, complete with a retractable roof. The retractable roof – which opens on to the terrace outside the couple’s bedroom – allows guests to dine alfresco when the weather allows. The mirrored door gives the impression of stepping into a secret garden.
Even the bathroom is a wonderfully eclectic and original space. Complete with a guitar shaped vanity and patterned tiles – it is a playful, modern area in the home.
The master suite is a haven with beautiful artwork and a feature wall in a darker cappuccino tone that adds definition to this space.
The master bath is a sublime space – bright, white and open. A place of relaxation with a centre tub to soak away your woes. Large mirrors, vast open windows and a white backdrop of colour adds to the lightness and airiness of this area.
