Plascon House Tour: A Louisiana Waterside Retreat
Today we are touring a beautiful 7,000 square foot home on the bayou in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It is here where an entertainer’s home takes centre stage featuring a cool, calming interior to match the beauty of the outdoors.
The overall design of the home is clean and sleek in a minimalist sea of white tones. Designed by Lance Thomas of Room Service, the property features a mostly white palette that’s punctuated with pops of black and navy. A modern yet soothing colour scheme that offers a range of beautiful design elements.
The kitchen is light and airy in white. The dark solid wood flooring adds a little bit of interest against the white backdrop. Designers also incorporated brass details to add a modern nod to New Orleans to finish the work.
The owner wanted a home that felt clean and sterile but not bland. The trick here was to keep things light with a white basis for most of the rooms. The design team took up the challenge by incorporating a mix of antique finishes and heirlooms to create depth and texture in the living spaces.
The living room becomes a feast of textures – a mix of minimalist modern and old-world charm featuring antique furniture items that add to the homely environment. We love the contrast between old and new – so cleverly incorporated to add warmth in the living spaces. Dark leather seating is juxtaposed against bold white sofas, while monochromatic art adds a further contrast that creates a modern ambience here.
Things are a lot less white in the cloakroom and study where designers chose a palette of deep blues to echo the waterside. The study oozes old-world elegance with an array of wooden decor mounted on the walls. We also love the wood panelling effect on the walls and the masculine tone that is set in this space.
The master bedroom is again soothing in white with large furniture items that give off an impression of bold sophistication. Two large black bedside lamps add height to the room, while a striped headboard and bed set brings added depth to the space.
Overall, the home feels welcoming and elegant. A perfect mix of clean white spaces with bold, antique furniture and art.
