Plascon House Tour: A Complete Church Renovation
A former dilapidated red-brick Toronto church was saved and totally transformed into a glorious family home – a place where a family could come and kick up in their feet and enjoy life together in a space reborn.
From the outside, the frame of the building hints at its old life. As far as possible, the original red brickwork was preserved. Hedges line the walkway and modern grey window trim adds a touch of contemporary style to the home.
Step inside and appreciate the true elegance of this modern renovation. The scale of each room is what sets this home apart. From the living room with it’s lofty ceiling and huge windows, a place of serenity is created. A feature black fireplace steals the show here while modern furnishings breathe contemporary ambience into this space.
Doors lead to a private courtyard and allows for ample natural lighting to flood this home. Leading into this space, an open plan kitchen area fits in beautifully and brings with it an openness and modern elegance, with hints of matte black and wooden finishes. We love that there is symmetry between the various zones in this enormous space. Modern black cabinetry and oversized lighting adds to the sense of modern grandeur in this room.
In the main bedroom, a calming space is created with light and neutral tones that add to the sense of tranquility and restfulness. A huge area rug brings a sense of warmth underfoot and we love the subtle pops of colour that appear in this space, such as the ottoman at the foot of the bed. Modern art above the bed brings a monochromatic touch to this space while adding depth and tone to this intimate room.
The real showstopper here is the feature fireplace – again with a black wall which creates a dramatic statement of style. It mirrors the design of the living room below and creates two cozy seating nooks on either side – perfect for the ultimate relaxation in this space.
