Celebrity Homes: Step Inside Vanessa Hudgens’s Los Feliz Home

An old home. One with soul, character and ambience. This is what actress Vanessa Hudgens was after when she first started her house search in Los Angeles. It’s no wonder that it took almost five years for her to find the perfect fit – a beautiful Georgian colonial house in Los Feliz.

The home is a sanctuary from the outside world. Covered in greenery and surrounded by olive trees, this home quickly transports you to another time and place. It has an alluring and even romantic exterior. Together with a long history, the home captivated Vanessa, who was charmed by the many stories it had to tell.

Called the Little DeMille, it was first built by director Cecile B. DeMille in 1922. Even today, it still boasts many old Hollywood elements. Vanessa explains, “The Art Deco air vents, the chandelier over the staircase, the yard that feels like a park.”

In 2018, Vanessa purchased the residence and hired interior designer Jake Arnold to remodel the primary suite. She took on the task of renovating the kitchen herself during the pandemic. “I figured, Why not?” she says. “I got new marble, painted the cabinets, got new knobs and drawer pulls—I really wanted brass. My girlfriend Ashley Tisdale,” of the High School Musical series, in which Hudgens also starred, “does interior design, and I got her advice on where to shop.”

Vanessa made sure to purchase things that she loved. A pink mohair sofa found at a vintage store, for instance, drew her in and helped her craft the idea to introduce soft feminine tones throughout. “I wanted the house to be super feminine, to celebrate women’s bodies, to be a kind of femme palace. The sofa plays into that.”

Throughout the home, Vanessa also included pieces sourced from some of her favourite vintage and antique shops, such as Gallery Half and Obsolete. These antique touches give the home soul.

Furthermore, the feminine mystique theme continues outside. It’s a wonderland of greenery and details here. Artist Carly Kuhn, known as the Cartorialist, was asked to paint a sinuous mural of faces on the wall surrounding the pool. “I wanted to add a little bit of me to the backyard,” Vanessa says.

The outdoor space is also about magnificent outdoor dining experiences. She’s all about having friends over and enjoying good company over a meal. Outside, a long table plays host to al fresco dinners that sometimes include the most local of produce. The home subsequently boasts massive grapefruit and avocados growing in the backyard.
