Water Saving Tips from Tile Africa

We find ourselves in strange times, with floods in some areas, and drought in others. This isn’t just here in South Africa, but across the globe where changing weather patterns mean changing rainfall patterns. So, it’s no surprise that the 2023 World Water Day theme is about accelerating change, in order to solve the water and sanitation crisis that the world faces.

We can all do our bit by using less water. Here are some top tips from Tile Africa on how you can be part of the solution, as we accelerate change in our homes!

Fix that leak

Don’t delay any longer, get that leak fixed and make a change to your monthly water bill! Repairing leaking taps and toilets, and replacing broken fittings is the quickest way to save water, and your money in the long term. Aside from the annoying sound of dripping water, that leaky tap could be wasting up to 3,500 litres of water a month, which equates to almost 40,000 litres a year.

 Turn it off

A tap left running while you brush your teeth uses about 20-30 litres of water per minute. Assuming you brush your teeth for two minutes, every morning and night, you’re letting almost 2,500 litres of clean water go down the drain a year! Turn the tap on only when you need it, whether you’re brushing your teeth, washing your face or shaving to reduce the amount of water you use. Accelerate change in your family with this simple water-saving habit.

 Time to upgrade

Make the water-savvy choice and change those old taps. Older style taps in your home may still be functional, but they may not be the most efficient option. Upgrading your taps to something more modern doesn’t just look great, most also have a built-in aerator, which reduces the amount of water you’re using. Less water usage means a lower water bill every month and more water available for everyone in our community over the long-term.

An added benefit of a modern tap is that they are available in a wide range of styles, colours and finishes so your home isn’t just water-wise but beautiful too. Explore Tile Africa’s range of bathroom and kitchen taps to find the most stylish water-saving option for your home.

Stand up for change

You have probably heard how much water is saved when you shower versus having a bath, but did you know that a water-saving showerhead reduces the flow of water from roughly 20 litres per minute to about 9 litres per minute. Stand up for change and make a big impact on how you use water at home. Choose a self-cleaning showerhead with silicone nozzles for an easy low-maintenance shower. Find the perfect one for your home with Tile Africa’s EVOX range of showerheads.

Use technology to save water. Digital showers from Xerophyte heat up the water before you even get in the shower – now that’s accelerating your home into a modern world and saving water! With a timer function, you can reduce the amount of water you use even more. Available at selected Tile Africa stores.

Go for a frugal flush

There’s much to be said for the way a new toilet can update your space, but it can also save you money on your water bill by using less water. Modern toilets, whether a close-coupled toilet or a wall-mounted model, have a compact design with smaller cisterns than older models. Newer designs mean that the water is flushed round the bowl more efficiently, using less water.

Do your thing to save water with a frugal flush! Browse Tile Africa’s range of toilets to find the right one for you.

Saving water is really important, and this Water Month Tile Africa encourages the world to unite around water. Play your part. Do what you can. Remember that most water-savvy products pay for themselves over time, so you’ll be saving money for yourself and doing good for your community, as well as the environment.

We can all do something to make a difference in how we use water in our everyday lives. Start with selecting water-savvy products for your bathroom or kitchen from the wide range of options available at Tile Africa.
