Victorian Bathrooms: Over 30 Years of Local Craftsmanship

Let’s take a look back to a time when the integrity of the handmade process was paramount, and when quality ensured longevity. This is the story of how Victorian Bathrooms came to be – and celebrate 30 years of local craftsmanship.

The VB Accessories Range

The story of the VB Accessories range goes all the way back to 1989 with Grandpa Nigel Goodale. When the business first started, no local engineering workshop was willing to tackle the task of creating a brass bath rack. Gramps (as he was known to the family) had studied engineering as a young lad and he also had the most superb workshop in his garage in Greyton as he was a keen Jaguar SS100 enthusiast, having created two replicas. Not surprisingly, Gramps created the most perfect bath racks for clients.

Attention to detail and design excellence

They could be extended to cater for baths of varying widths, including a special screw to secure the width; which is continued to this day. So proud was he of his creations that he took to numbering each one as he made them. If you have a Victorian Bathrooms’ bath rack from way back then, you may find a unique number on the underside as a reminder of the passion involved in its creation.

Over the years the VB Accessories range has grown to be an extensive offering of superb quality, locally manufactured products, many of which were developed to meet the specific requirements ofclients. For example, the rectangular shower basket was created for Rovos Rail and the toilet roll holder was designed for The Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel. Attention to little details like the lock nut on the base plate ensuring that the support post remains rigid even after years of use, reflect the level of quality found in The VB Range.

VB ~ An extensive range with bespoke finishes.

By working closely with local artisans and some of the finest expertise South Africa has to offer, these accessories are created from raw brass which is shaped, lathed and painstakingly soldered prior to being completed with the finish of choice whether this be one of the brass finishes (polished, brushed or aged) or chrome or nickel-plated and more recently black powder-coated.

VB’s priorities are that the style of this range remains as relevant as it was 30 years ago, that they simplify clients’ lives by ensuring the items meets their needs, and that the quality of this range does not falter. The collection of ‘Proudly South African’ VB Accessories still shines all these years later.

From the very first bath rack, carefully shaped by Grandpa Goodale 30 years ago, to the highly engineered, gleaming VB Collection of bathroom accessories of today, this proudly South African range is truly world-class. Watch video and read more
