Vaniti House: Designing for longevity may be the new luxury

For so long, luxury in the home has been about beautiful finishes, statement details, and creating spaces that feel impressive. But I think that idea is changing. Real luxury is starting to look more like comfort, ease, and a home that supports you beautifully through every stage of life.

We spend so much time designing for how we live now, but perhaps we should also be thinking about how we want to live in the years to come. Not in a clinical or overly practical way, but in a thoughtful one.

The idea of ageing in place is becoming such an important part of good design. Not because we are designing for old age, but because we are designing for longevity, independence, and a home that can evolve with us.

The bathroom is often where this matters most. It’s a space we use every single day, yet so many of the small decisions made here can have a huge impact later on. Thoughtful details like a walk in shower, a fold away shower seat, beautifully designed support rails that feel like part of the design, a slightly higher and more generously proportioned toilet, and a basin with enough counter space and room underneath for easier access all make a difference.

Even something as simple as shower and basin mixers with extended levers can make everyday use that much easier. The selection of products available today is endless, and the beauty is that these solutions no longer need to feel clinical or obvious.

Perhaps the most luxurious homes are not the ones with the most extravagant finishes, but the ones designed to age beautifully alongside the people who live in them.
