Stay home, keep calm and plan with Tile Africa

Stay home, keep calm and plan with Tile Africa

Half the world is on lockdown and options for keeping busy seem to be running out, but Tile Africa have some ideas to share on keeping busy at home, staying calm and focusing on what you’ll need when life returns to normal.

Now that you are spending more time at home than ever before, do you find yourself looking at your space, and thinking that it may be time to start planning an update? Why not use this time at home to think about what you can do to give your home a refreshed look. With a little research and some planning this could be easier and more affordable than you think. Sometimes you don’t need to make big expensive changes, a small DIY project can make all the difference.

A manageable DIY project would be to add a tiled splashback behind your sink or stove. This upgrade makes the wall easier to clean and adds a beautiful feature to your kitchen. Mosaic tiles are a wonderful choice, and as this is usually a small space, you don’t need a lot of them. Add some colour to your kitchen!

If you’re feeling creative, why not convert an old dresser, or chest of drawers into a one-of-a-kind bathroom vanity. Using a counter-top basin and mixer tap means less work on the unit, to accommodate the plumbing. With some imagination, you could have a stylish, upcycled piece of bathroom furniture at a fraction of the cost.

Sometimes it’s a bigger task to bring your home up to date, like tiling an entire room, but with careful planning, this doesn’t have to break the bank. Think of it as a well-planned investment that will add value of your property for years to come.

Once you’ve decided on your project, there are three simple steps to get you closer to making the dream a reality.

Step 1 –     Start by measuring the space if you’re wanting to tile. Once you know how big the area is, you can calculate what you can afford to pay for your tiles. For example if you need 10m2and you plan to spend about R2000, then you’re looking for tiles in the price range of R100-150 per square metre, which leaves you with some budget for the adhesives, grout, additives, trims and other things you need to install the tiles.

Step 2 –     Time for the fun part, which is choosing the tiles, basin or taps for your project. Use your approximate budget from step 1 above to help keep you on track. Take your time looking at the options, to make sure you get the right product for your home and budget.

Step 3 –     Bringing it all together. Once you have your measurements, and a wishlist of products, request a quote for everything you need to complete your project. Be sure to include details on the project you’re working on. Don’t be afraid to be specific, so the team at Tile Africa can advise on everything you may need, including those you may have forgotten, or not even thought about. With a full quote you can decide on whether your budget is right on track, whether you need to look at different options, or perhaps save up a little bit if you absolutely must have a specific item.

Everyone wants to get the most value out of their hard-earned money and we all want a beautiful, safe home for our families. Let Tile Africa help you bring that dream home to life. With a little help, you may find it’s more achievable than you think. Stay home, keep calm and start planning your new-look home with Tile Africa!
