Prada: A quirky yet stylish cafe in Florence
Italian fashion house Prada just unveiled its new project – a quirky yet stylish cafe in Florence.
Prada revamped the historic Caffè Principe in the Florentine seaside resort of Versilia just in time for summer and an authentic celebration of la dolce vita.
The cafe, which has been in existence since the 1930s and was acquired by the fashion house last year, has undergone a slight makeover, retaining its original style – but with some signature Prada touches.
Florentine architect Michele Bonan was tasked with designing furniture inspired by the 1950s originals while the cafe’s classic blue hue was also retained in the decor.
Today, the seaside cafe is a quirky yet stylish mix of retro-style wicker chairs, Formica tables, blue-and-white upholstery, curtains and wallpaper, as well as a graphic green vintage Prada design and pops of bright orange.
“This untouched place tells a true story,” says Michele of the result, which is authentic Italian in look and feel.
Of course, the uniforms are also now designer: embroidered white shirts, navy jeans and white sneakers or espadrilles.
While the menu features Italian summer classics that are light and fresh, including Caprese salad, small sandwiches and sweet treats.
