Moyo Fine Arts

Proudly African, Johannesburg-based Moyo Fine Art offers clients the opportunity to take a little piece of Africa home with them.

Purveyors of premium African art and decor items, including lighting, decorative accessories, jewellery and handicrafts, the store stocks a wide range of beautiful, locally-made items, all inspired by the continent and its rich culture and history.

“We specialise in African art decor from all over Africa. We want to tell stories through our pieces,” explains Moyo Fine Arts.

“We pride ourselves on our items because each and every one of them has a historical background – they all have little history piece of Africa and its many beautiful countries.”

Some of the unique pieces include Moyo’s variety of colourful Juju Hats and Namji Dolls.

“Known as Juju hats, or Bamileke hats, these sought-after wall-hangings have come a long way from traditional Cameroonian festivities and ceremonies, where they have been used for hundreds of years as a headdress that denotes power and wealth for the wearer,” explains the company of one of its most popular items.

“Namji Dolls, on the other hand, originate from the Namji tribe in Cameroon. Not only are these dolls striking to look at, but they also have an interesting history. Given to encourage fertility, these dolls are made for young girls to play with, strapping them to their backs and carrying them around to mirror the responsibility of their mothers.”

Other popular items include exquisitely beaded Yoruba chairs from Nigeria, mud cloths and sculpturally carved wooden stools – each with its own unique story.
