The Tzu Chi Foundation is a Buddhist organization and they have been present in South Africa since 1992. They asked Human Voice Architects to design their first Temple on the African continent. In the temple there is a lot of symbolism such as the use of bamboo, where the hollow stems mirrors humility, but it’s very strong at the same time. Sustainable materials were used as much as possible like bamboo flooring, doors, wall panels, acoustic panels, and cabinetry. Dharma Master Cheng Yen, the founder of Tzu Chi, hopes that visitors will be inspired to join in the good work
