Local Vega Student Shines on International Design Platform

Behance Portfolio Review, an international platform for creatives, has recognised Jason Walden, a third-year Visual Communications student at Vega, for the outstanding quality of his second and third-year portfolios. Walden’s contribution was chosen as one of the top three portfolios for South Africa, out of approximately 150 submissions.

Behance Portfolio Review is a volunteer-organised event that allows creatives from all over the world to showcase their work to local industry professionals. Vega, an educational brand of The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), encourages their students to showcase their work at Behance to gain valuable insight and develop their craft, bridging the gap between talent and opportunity.

Students from the University of Johannesburg Graphic Design and Multimedia, Open Window Communication as well as Vega took part in the review evening. “I entered my work and participated in the event with the sole intention of getting feedback from experts in design,” Walden explains. “The experience taught me to be strategic in how to showcase my different skills, like layout and art direction for example. The recognition I’ve received has made me feel far more confident in myself and my skills than I ever have before.” “We are so proud of Jason for this outstanding achievement, and for being recognised on an internationally-respected and established platform like Behance,” says Fiona Peake, communications navigator at Vega. “Through this event, students have the opportunity to be recognised for their incredible work and develop their creative skills to become more discoverable in the industry. “The Behance Portfolio evening is such a rewarding and motivating experience for students, and we look forward to more of our Vega-nites taking part in future Behance events and receiving the recognition they deserve.” Walden has been awarded various prizes to assist him in furthering his design career along with bragging rights for the rest of the year!
