Coverland: Roofing Systems For All Seasons
A roof does more than just provide a protective covering over your head. It determines the interior climate levels of your living or work space through heat transfer and contributes to a dry, healthy and comfortable indoor environment. With so much to consider, here we share everything you need to know regarding roofing systems, thanks to our friends from Coverland.
If you find that your living environment gets too cold in winter and too hot in summer, or your roof ridge constantly requires maintenance, Monier Coverland have the solution for you. Their weatherproof roofing systems support a healthy and comfortable indoor climate that goes hand in hand with cost saving and environmental consciousness.
Heat Transfer Through Your Roof
The largest heat loss across an un-insulated air-filled space (a building without insulation under the roof covering) is natural convection, for example, air conditioners, heaters, convection ovens. While you try to maintain a temperate indoor climate in winter, you also hike up your electricity bill (not to mention increase your carbon footprint). Interior climate control – heating, ventilating, and air conditioning – is one of the largest energy consumers throughout the world today.
The largest share of heat transmitted within a building is radiant heat, transferred in a downward flow from the roof. Your roof may have traditional bulk insulation to keep heat inside the home, ideal in winter. This is achieved by trapping air to eliminate significant convective heat loss through the roof. The multiple surfaces of bulk insulation only minimise the radiant heat of the sun entering the interior. The result is that the comfortable interior temperature is not maintained in the hot summer months.
Cool Roof System
The Coverland Cool Roof System is a self-sustaining system that offers a solution to reduce the flow of heat transfer by optimising the roof’s thermal performance with a combination of heat reflection, ventilation and insulation products. These work together to minimise the radiant heat and reduce the heat transmitted into the roof. The result is a cool interior in summer and a cosy interior in winter. In turn, a household uses less heating and cooling equipment.
