Revelstone: Aesthetic Excellence at House Justus

This refurbishment project was a marriage between traditional Cape Colonial architecture, which was evident in the original house, and some Mediterranean, North African and contemporary influences. Thanks to Revelstone, the exterior is breathtaking, modern and captivating.

In selecting hard landscaping finishes, the architect sought a product which would extend the visual flow from the lower ground floor interior tiles to the veranda steps and the pool surround. The tiles had to be slip-resistant and yet retain a crisp exterior appearance to which the large flagstone pavers chosen for this purpose were perfectly suited. The veranda steps above the pool were to be visually floating with a shadow line between the risers and treads. Similar detailing along the edge of the pool would then accommodate the channel for the automated pool cover (still to be installed when the pool is filled). A slightly more random, traditional look was sought for the pool surround as well as the side and front sections of the house, and stone cobbles decorated with pot plants to soften the edges, were chosen for this purpose. Smaller finer-grained pavers were selected for the carport and pavement surfaces. They were laid in herringbone to match the interior timber flooring, and an inset of larger pavers announced the main entrance of the house. The property has several walls which needed durable cappings as well as the pool stairs and pool perimeter. Contact: Revelstone
