How to Decorate with Flowers from The Garden Shop This Spring

It’s about that time of year when we can say goodbye winter and hello Spring! Spring is about vibrant colour, new life and a burst of energy. Bring all of these elements into your home to truly embrace the season. Here we share some top tips to help you decorate with flowers this Spring.

Go for rustic elegance Bring the beauty of the outdoors inside with rustic jars and watering cans that can serve as centrepiece vases on your dining or coffee table. Add contrasting white flowers to make a beautiful statement.

Some of or favourite Spring Vase Flowers include: Arum Lillies. Add Arum Lillies to your rustic containers for a grand statement. The attractive white flowers with long, broad, dark green leaves stand tall and offer a sophisticated elegance. Grow them in shaded areas and if they’re happy in your garden, the plants will reward you with long-lasting cut flowers.

Hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are delicate blooms that add an instant touch of whimsy to a room. To extend their vase life, remove all the leaves from the stems, and cut each stem under water.

Spray Roses. One of the most common rose variations, Spray Roses can last up to two weeks in a vase. Carnations. Carnations are one of the most popular Spring flowers. They’re also one of the most enduring cut flowers, known for living up to two weeks with proper care. To keep carnations healthy, cut the tips of their stems every three days under water.

Clivia. This is an easy-to-grow indigenous plant that is happiest in the sun, with orange clusters of flowers that herald the beginning of spring.

Strelizia. This is a true South African icon of a plant, with vibrant orange and blue flowers. It’s also called the crane flower because its magnificent blooms are reminiscent of a crane with a crown of feathers.

Vygies. Not forgetting the magnificent tones of the Vygie, this indigenous flower can be found in an array of sizes and colours from bright pinks to purples, yellows and oranges. They’re a great addition to a rock garden or other dry areas because you don’t need to water them very often and they flower reliably and spectacularly. The succulents are also easily propagated with cuttings and butterflies just love them!
