Cecil Nurse: Hybrid Ways of Working

Having to be all things to all people is never easy. However, new office furniture trends are rapidly gaining momentum by doing just that…being all things to all people!

Modern office furniture designs aim to be hybrids in every sense of the word. As such, new concepts are increasingly blurring the lines between the office and ‘elsewhere’ by accommodating new ways of working.

One innovation that is transforming the idea of traditional office furniture are designs that have the same look and feel as items used in the home. Offices have changed a lot in the last couple of years, as we move more and more into open spaces and people want to feel at home when they are working.

A Hybrid Moment

These days, we demand everything from our place of work: privacy, personality, hospitality, flexibility. We want sitting desks and standing desks. Our hope is for napping areas and play areas. We expect our workspace to offer everything in terms of comfort, wellness, stimulation, productivity and exercise. So much so that we sometimes forget its essential purpose: to be a space for thoughtful, productive work.

With the changing nature of work, furniture design for the office is in a ‘hybrid moment’. It is an ideal opportunity for designers to create furniture that can adapt to both home and work environments.

Furniture that Connects

We need chairs that are ergonomically beneficial. We need office furniture that is a little more human, has more colour and a mostly flexible application. The new age office furniture is the type where you can connect with someone and say: “hey, I have something to discuss with you, why don’t we sit down here and have a chat about it”. And then you can have your productive conversations while sitting in a comfortable, private space.

Pod or collaboration furniture often looks like a sofa or a couch, with high backs and curved sides for privacy. It is upholstered in textiles that come in a variety of colours. Sometimes it comes with pillows to support the neck and elbows. It can be fitted with a small table side table, as well as USB and electricity plugs at the base of the sofa.

We Meet Pods

Cecil Nurse is creating spaces that help people work more productively. The soon to be launched ‘We Meet’ pods, and other innovative products featured in their catalogues. This includes ‘Cove’, ‘Campus’, ‘Meeting Place’ or ‘Take Five’ designed to filter out background noise and aid concentration, especially in open-plan offices.

Aiming to help you manage potential triggers for stress in the workplace (and at home), these privacy pods help you concentrate. It is ideal for those areas where there are too many distractions.

The design and configuration of this modular furniture counteracts disturbances at work and offers employees the opportunity to experience a unique, semi-private environment.
