Willowlamp Wins At [d]arc Lighting Awards

We are delighted to announce that Willowlamp has won Third Place at the [D]ARC LIGHTING AWARDS in the category Art – High Budget.

The London design community came out in force to announce the winners in the 2023 [d]arc Lighting Awards – the only peer-to-peer lighting design awards in the world! The annual [d]arc Lighting Awards celebrate the best in lighting design and honors outstanding works in lighting design by the top global lighting designers.

There were 370 entries from all over the world submitted this year, with more than 11000 votes cast by the independent design community.

As a South African bespoke lighting design company, willowlamp was honored with a 3rd place win for the submission of the Cathédrale Project.  Under the helm of founder and creative director Adam Hoets, willowlamp created two monumental theatrical, ceiling scape lighting installations for Cathédrale, Tao Group’s latest Las Vegas restaurant that opened 1 May 2023.  willowlamp was commissioned by renowned New York based project designers, the Rockwell Group.

The dramatic and theatrical ceiling scape wows visitors on entry into the restaurant’s dining room, where the first of the two beaded chain canopies hangs. It is made of 40 kilometers of chain and weighs almost 3 000 kilograms. The second installation, which hovers above the bar, features 22 000 chains.

While pieces like this would normally take up to two years from planning to completion, the willowlamp team managed to accomplish the massive task in only eight months. The two mammoth installations are a testament to Hoets’s architectural background, which enabled the multifaceted designer to execute the creation of structures that rival the glorious cathedrals that informed them. They have ‘a powerful presence that is transportive through magical realism’, says Hoets.

We are proud to say the installations in Cathédrale are two of Willowlamp’s many once-off creations that decorate residential and hospitality spaces across the globe.
