Where Light Takes Shape: The Flower of Life in Black Oxide
There’s something powerful about a design that carries both aesthetic presence and symbolic depth. At willowlamp, lighting isn’t just functional — it’s a sculptural expression of meaning, movement, and geometry.
The brand’s most iconic piece, the Flower of Life chandelier, is a testament to this design philosophy. Inspired by the ancient sacred geometry symbol of the same name — a pattern of overlapping circles seen across cultures and centuries — this chandelier captures a universal motif that speaks to connection, creation, and cosmic order.
“Sacred geometry can be understood as the template upon which reality is built,” says Adam Hoets, architect-turned-lighting designer and founder of willowlamp. “It’s the mathematical beauty behind the universe, distilled into nature.”
This signature chandelier is anchored by a laser-cut stainless-steel frame, with cascading metal ball chains suspended using willowlamp’s patented notch system — forming a floating lattice of symmetry, shadow, and movement. The name comes from its blooming, petal-like structure: a flower made of line and light.
Now available in Black Oxide, the chandelier takes on a moody new dimension. This finish is achieved through a specialist blackening process applied to the steel frame, then sealed to preserve its deep, earthy tone. The ball chains — made from treated brass — develop a complementary gunmetal patina that enhances texture and tonal contrast.
The result? A bold reimagining of a classic, gothic design that feels elemental, and unmistakably modern.
The Flower of Life pattern is rooted in sacred geometry:
✦ A symbol of unity, proportion, and cosmic order
✦ A visual metaphor for creation and connection
✦ A motif found in Egyptian temples, Gothic cathedrals, and Renaissance designs of divine proportion

Handcrafted in Cape Town, each willowlamp piece merges architectural rigour with artisanal craft. And for those seeking a cohesive lighting story, the Flower of Life is also available as a matching wall sconce — ideal for use in hallways, hospitality projects, or paired with the chandelier in residential spaces.
From boutique hotels to private homes, the Flower of Life chandelier in Black Oxide adds drama, clarity, and soul — a centrepiece that elevates the space it moves in.
