Texture in Motion: The Lotus Chandelier by Willowlamp
Texture in design isn’t only about surfaces you can touch — it’s about depth, movement, and the interplay between light and form. At willowlamp, the team explores texture through a signature medium: cascading metal chain, suspended with precision to create sculptural lighting objects that feel as layered as they are luminous. Read on for more insight from Adam Hoets, Founder and Creative Director at willowlamp.
The Lotus chandelier is one of our most textural pieces. Inspired by the radial geometry of the lotus flower, it uses hundreds of strands of fine ball chain to form a multi-tiered silhouette that reads like petals unfolding in mid-air. The result is a chandelier that introduces both softness and structure — adding a visual counterpoint to the hard edges of contemporary interiors.
What makes the Lotus so effective in high-end residential and hospitality spaces is the way it filters light through texture. As illumination moves through the layered chain, it produces a warm ambient glow, while the physical weight and drape of the material give the piece a sculptural sense of gravity. In this way, the chandelier becomes more than just a lighting solution — it becomes part of the spatial architecture.
Available in a variety of finishes — from cool metallics like Black Oxide and Silver Chrome to warm tones of Brass and Copper — the Lotus adapts to a range of design palettes. Our Mixed Metallics finish is especially popular, blending Brass, Copper, and Smoke Gunmetal to emphasise the chandelier’s layered form and introduce tonal variation across each tier.
Crafted in our Cape Town studio, the Lotus chandelier combines engineered precision with hand-assembled detail. Our patented notch system allows each strand to hang perfectly aligned, creating clean radial symmetry — and a sense of movement within the stillness.
At willowlamp, we see texture not as embellishment, but as a design tool — a way to create presence, depth, and atmosphere in the spaces we inhabit.
Crafted by artisans in Cape Town. Delivered worldwide.
