Streamlight: Vibia Unveils The Africa Collection
Let there be light… Spanish design studio Vibia has just unveiled its latest lighting design.
Titled Africa, the lamp collection was designed by Francisco Gomez Paz and combines “cultural significance, the richness of form and materiality, and high-performance lighting capabilities” for a unique design.
“Defined by a slender, conical stem that leads to a neat head, the luminaire invites you to reach out and grasp it,” says the company of the Africa lamp.
“First and foremost an object of desire, this portable lamp stands out for its finesse in aesthetics, creating an unmistakable connection with ancient artistic practices. Poetic and sleek, Africa explores beauty, functionality and the essence of humanity.”
“Africa was born as a response to the latest ways of inhabiting, in which the hybridisation of residential and professional spaces is increasingly nomadic, free, and casual,” the designer adds.
Available in two sizes and four natural colours, the versatile lamp can be used individually or in groupings to light up a dark corner or for task lighting, thanks to the changeable LED light source which provides three levels of intensity.
“Shaped from a single unit of pure aluminium, this mono-materiality lends Africa a certain weight and technical quality associated with high-end industrial processes. The density of
its shaft and head is balanced by a counterweight at the base, providing stability while granting the elegance of an elongated neck”, adds Vibia.
Vibia is locally available at Streamlight, a Johannesburg-based lighting specialist which offers world-class lighting design and supply services.
