Streamlight Presents A Villa in Malta with Vibia Lighting
On the European island of Malta, Rome-based firm Luca Peralta Studio drew inspiration from stunning sea vistas for its extensive renovation of Villa Rihana, a private residence.
Aiming to accentuate the view and blur the boundaries between indoors and out, the home’s design is defined by two horizontal planes that run parallel to the horizon line. The upper plane is a sleek cantilevered roof, while the lower one forms a ground-floor plateau that appears suspended upon the landscape.
Together, they create an architectural bookend for the villa, a striking geometric silhouette that unifies the structure’s disparate volumes.
The ground level bisects the infinity pool, which is brightened by a pair of Vibia Bamboo floor lamps punctuating the far reaches of the patio. The minimalist fixtures by Antoni Arola and Enric Rodríguez are distinguished by slender stalks that seem to sprout directly out of the ground, recalling the organic form of its namesake plant.
The lamps are studded with LED lights along its stem and cast a warm glow across the pool while also doubling as a landscape feature.
Nearby, a series of Meridiano lamps are positioned along an exterior walkway. The fixtures by Jordi Vilardell and Meritxell Vidal are formed from an open-slot spherical shade and serve as seating as well as outdoor illumination. An ambient LED shines through Meridiano’s grid and casts a radial pattern of shadow and light on the terrace. Topped with foam, the lamps provide a pretty perch for enjoying the Mediterranean garden they overlook.
