Hoi P’loy: custom designed lamps and lighting
Founded in 2013 by Ploy Phiromnam and Guy van der Walt, Hoi P’loy has elevated the level of custom-designed lamps and lighting components available in South Africa, shining a spotlight on local craft and talent.
Apart from supplying high-end, functional lighting design pieces, Hoi P’loy also provides a free advisory service to customers, architects, interior designers and product designers to create the most illuminating custom pieces.
“At Hoi Ploy, we’re passionate not just about crafting beautiful lighting ourselves, but also about fostering a culture of design excellence. That’s why we offer a complimentary Product & Interior Designer Guidance service,” says the duo.
“Draw on our experience and knowledge of the industry to develop well-considered, beautifully designed lights. Whether you need a hand navigating technical aspects or brainstorming ideas, we’re happy to share best practices, guide you throughout the design process, and ensure your lighting vision becomes a reality.”
Speaking of custom designs, Hoi P’loy also offers the ultimate customisation of some of its most popular designs, including the Empire Pendant and the Hugo Hotspot.
Inspired by the iconic industrial factory lampshade of the 1920s, Hoi P’loy’s Empire Pendant is crafted from solid brass, boasting a silhouette that echoes the company’s signature style. Customers can choose from their range of stylish filament bulbs to personalise the light fitting.
The much-loved Hugo Hotspot can be customised for permanent wall mounting (with or without a pull chain switch) or transformed into a portable light fixture with a plug and cable in any style.“With us, the possibilities are endless,” says Hoi P’loy.
