Franke: An Upliftment Project At Ngwelezana Hospital Paediatric Burns Unit

Franke assists in an upliftment project to provide a new Paediatric Burns Unit at Ngwelezana Hospital.

In 2018 Franke were approached by the architects at Hospital Design Group who have undertaken, together with the Carte Blanche Making a Difference Trust, to uplift the paediatric facilities and services for trauma and burns patients at Ngwelezana Hospital.

The facility, which caters for children aged 1 to 12 years consists of 22 beds divided as follows; 10 for sub-acute, 10 for high care and two for isolation. Winter is a critical time of year which sees the highest number of burn victims, particularly in rural areas.

Franke South Africa has a long history of expertise in providing sanitaryware and specialised stainless steel products to hospitals, clinics and environments where hygiene is of the highest priority.

The Franke Group’s promise to customers first and foremost is to “Make it Wonderful”. This also includes taking accountability and accepting our duty to make a difference in our environment and society. Our hospital products will have a vital impact on the children receiving treatment at paediatric burn facility and their families. “As the only hospital in the Umhlathuze Municipality to offer specialist burn treatment to people in the region, we were honoured to be in a position to contribute to this project” commented Chris Rothman, FSA Marketing Manager.

Franke donated 33 commercial stainless steel products including Stratos and Rodan Range Washroom accessories, washroom basins and work tables to the project.

Handover Ceremony

On Tuesday 18 June Franke was invited to attend the brand new Paediatric Burns Unit Handover at Ngwelezana Hospital in the King Cetshwayo District. The event was hosted by Carte Blanche presenter, Macfarlane Moleli, and all donors of equipment and materials were gratefully acknowledged with a plaque erected at the site.

Franke would like to commend the architects of Hospital Design Group, the main donors Mnet’s ‘Carte Blanche Making a Difference Trust and mining and metal company South 32 as well as all the other companies who contributed to this worthy cause.
