Inspiration for a Classic Breakfast Nook

Have you experienced that early morning rush to get everyone up, ready and out of the house on time, while ensuring that you all had a substantial meal to kickstart the day? Well, if you’re anything like us, you’ll know that a formal breakfast table is never really going to work on such occasions! This is why we love classic breakfast nooks – the ideal space, usually just off the kitchen, for those quick morning catch ups before the mad rush of the day!

A cosy breakfast nook is proof that when it comes to smart design, bigger isn’t always better. These charming kitchen niches are usually only large enough to fit a small table or bistro set. It is the perfect space for a casual meal using any available space you may have, whether in an alcove, under a stairway or in an intimate corner of the home. There are a few great options available to help you create the ideal breakfast nook in your own home. Follow these tips to inspire your own ideas.

  1. Find a suitable area. If you have a large enough kitchen, you may have a corner where you could place a small bistro set, or perhaps create a lovely customised breakfast table for you to enjoy with your family. Kitchen too small? Perhaps use the room, alcove or area next to the kitchen for easy access.
  2. Built-in or freestanding? You could create a breakfast nook with built-in seating to maximise the space in your kitchen or eating area. Use fixed benches against the walls, with added storage to make full use of the space. Alternatively, invest in a quality freestanding table and chairs.
  3. Fold away. If space is a real issue, perhaps consider a fold-away table with sides that can be lifted, or an extendable table to help accommodate more guests for a meal when needed. Simply fold the sides when not in use to maximise the space.

Breakfast nooks definitely make for cosier, casual mornings – perfect for those of us with busy lifestyles! look for decor and design Elements visit www.sadecor.co.za
