Chad-O-Chef: Prepare Your Outdoor Kitchen For Autumn
We love everything to do with outdoor living and the opportunity to extend your home outdoors. As the seasons change, be sure to prepare your outdoor spaces for the cooler months. If you’re fortunate enough to have the space, be sure to take good care of your outdoor kitchen. Here we share some top tips to help you.
If you enjoy spending time outdoors, then an outdoor kitchen is a great feature to any home. However, in winter you may use this space less often, but this need not be the case if you plan ahead and ensure year-long use.
Prepare Your Grill
It’s a good idea to do some maintenance on your outdoor grill or braai at the end of the summer. Even if you plan to use the grill occasionally during the colder months, a good clean will ensure it’s working well when summer rolls around again in a few months time.
Depending on the material and quality of your outdoor grill, it may be able to resist the elements without a cover. If you do choose to use a cover, however, make sure to use one designed for your type of grill that will allow moisture to escape. Synthetic materials work best for withstanding weather and allowing moisture to move through.
Protective Covers
Be sure to protect your furniture and appliances in your outdoor kitchen during the rainy months. Move these to a covered patio area to withstand the cold or invest in protective covers to help you keep them in tip top condition. Covering surfaces and appliances in your outdoor kitchen can also help to prevent wear, cracks, and stains due to cold and wet weather.
Add a roof
If you want your kitchen to become a feature that can be used throughout the year, you may eventually want to cover it with a solid roof or stylish pergola to help protect your space from the elements and also make it more functional and comfortable for use in the cooler seasons.
