Upcycling with Heart: Before and After with reMaker

If we are truly to be honest with ourselves, excess and over-consumption are a sign of our times. The ‘waste not, want not’ mentality of our grandparents’ age, borne out of the need to be frugal during times of war seems to have given way to an unconscionable culture of waste.

There are, however, particular businesses such as reMaker who make it their goal to contradict the idea that once we have no more use for our items we can simply throw them out without a second thought.

With waste pollution levels at an all-time high, the utter devastation that wastefulness wrecks on our world order should be one of our main priorities if we are to reestablish a balance between ourselves and the natural world. Sustainability, recycling and upcycling have become the latest buzz words in popular culture but for all their over-use they succeed in creating a level of consciousness around how we conduct our lifestyles. Waste is now being seen an a very unpopular way to live our lives and for very real reasons. While it can be said with relative certainty that affecting public change as an individual is not always an easy task. It is however, easy to make small changes that will serve as examples to others. We salute reMaker, a proud business founded upon these ideals.

With a knack for great design and an uncanny ability to transform drab old furniture into gorgeously detailed bespoke pieces, it’s businesses like these that deserve both our support and our applaud. With a flair for detail and an uncompromising commitment to doing things well, founder Hilary G has taken on various ‘before and after’ projects that prove once and for all that waste is never an option but upcycling is…and with fantastic results. Using decorative paint finishes, refurbishing, gilding and silver leafing, Hilary has the ability to transform any piece of furniture into a collector’s item.

Take a look at some of here ‘before and after’ projects here:
