Up Close & Personal With Inova Contracts

From recognising top brands and bringing these to South Africa, to finding inspiration in quaint little towns and hotels around the world, we chatted to Brent Weldon, CEO of Inova Contracts, about the endless design possibilities of this growing brand. 

What’s your go-to colour choice?

My default colour palette is grey. Mostly because I have young kids and you can add pops of colour as the grey creates a lovely neutral base from which to work.

Is there a hotel, interior or building that’s most inspired your work?

I travel to London frequently and get to stay in some amazing places. My current favourite is the Ned on Poultry Lane, London. It’s an old bank that has been taken over by the Soho House group. From a style and design perspective they just get it right.

A place you love to visit?

Our ultimate family holiday, is Lake Garda in northern Italy. We’ve had a apartment there for over 30 years and it’s the one place we can go to relax, taking in the Italian culture and way of life.

Where do you go to spot new styles and what can we expect to see from Inova?

The Milan and Stockholm furniture fairs are two exhibitions that are unmissable. The UK is making waves with their Clerkenwell Design Week, in May, featuring increasingly good manufacturers, including Boss Design and Connection seating.

Do you have a favourite restaurant?

The Shortmarket Club in Cape Town, is a firm favourite and I love the quirky design by Sandalene Dale-Roberts. My go to in London is Dishoom, their food is delicious and their colonial style makes it one of the hippest spots around.

Who or what is your biggest design influence?

My father was credited with bringing designer brands to South Africa in the early 1970’s. He had a passion for good quality products with European flair and has been a real inspiration to me. I aim to carry on the legacy working with fantastic brands like Magis, Arper and Hay.

Any interesting projects you are working on?

We are teaming up with Bone Design, working alongside them on their new brand, Marrow. Our concept is to bring beautifully curated furniture packages for developers to offer their clients.
