Tips for decorating a neutral nursery
Decorating a nursery is an exciting time – this usually means that you are about to welcome a baby into your home – a season that will change your life forever.
Whether you are an eager new parent looking for the latest in baby trends, or perhaps the interior designer tasked with designing a stylish nursery, neutral colour palettes are currently trending. We share some top tips for creating the perfect neutral nursery for your new bundle of joy.
- All white. We love the idea of an all-white nursery. Paint the walls in a shade of white and pair matching furniture and furnishings to finish off the look. You may want to invest in materials and finishes that are easy to clean, especially since little ones will be actively involved in the space.
- Wooden warmth. The natural tones of wood are perfect additions in a neutral nursery. Opt for wooden furniture such as a cot, rocking chair or compactum – or live on the wild side and choose to clad a feature wall in wood. Natural woods add warmth and depth which are ideal for a child’s room.
- Pick a rug. Choose a rug to suit the dimensions of the room and look for something soft and comfortable for little hands and feet to explore. Rugs instantly add to the cosiness of a room and will add aesthetic appeal in a neutral nursery.
- Wall art. A child’s nursery is the perfect place in which to experiment with fun art and designs for the walls. In a neutral nursery, opt for subtle pops of colour in framed artworks or canvases to complement the theme of the room. You may want to add letters to the wall to spell baby’s name or perhaps complete a small gallery wall of interesting things in neutral colours to add depth and interest in the space.
- Soft furnishings. Babies need warmth and comfort in those first few months after birth. Add these to the room through soft furnishings and interesting textures – think drapes, blankets, bedding and carpets that add heat and comfort to a nursery.
- Colour. In a neutral nursery, you may want to use subtle colours that are not very overpowering, and bring these in through the different design elements throughout the space. A pop of colour here and there may help to create uniformity and fun in a room your child will love.
