The KARE Sustainability Initiative
KARE Design is taking its Joy of Living appeal to the next level. With the “LET’S DO BETTER” initiative, KARE is going the extra mile for sustainability and the responsible use of resources.
When it comes to furnishing, sustainability starts with creating premium-quality products for design fans. KARE’s mission is to provide long-lasting, much-loved furniture that can one day be returned to the resource cycle.
Just as the passion for design and living is part of KARE’s heritage so is the sense of responsibility for social, cultural, ecological and economic sustainability. While KARE’s goal is ambitious, they’re making steps every day to improve in each area.
Therefore, they have launched the initiative ‘Let’s do better’. With it, they are pulling out all the stops to further ensure sustainability in all areas of the company.
Everything starts with the design idea
Every step counts when it comes to sustainability, and KARE already took the first step in the 1990s. Instead of mass production, KARE focuses on small furniture series, which are produced in workshops and manufactories from high-quality materials. They know the suppliers personally and inspect each production location throughout Europe and Asia several times per year. Humane and fair working conditions are a must if they are to choose a business partner.
Thinking big
Doing it better than others – with this idea, KARE started in 1981. The mission is to provide every home with furniture of lasting value and to make every home a happy place.
The term home is associated with much more than just your own four walls. The environment and nature, the people with whom we live and work, and our social environment are a part of it. KARE’s mission does not end at the doorstep of a customer or in front of their premises.
Preserving values; Conserving resources
KARE’s products are primarily manufactured with high-quality, solid, recyclable materials. For example, the solid wood dining tables can be sanded down and resealed. Sideboards are made from recycled wood and both are timeless and unique, and will find their place as a favourite piece or later gifted a second life as a vintage treasure.
KARE stands for boundless inspiration! That is why they offer furniture, lighting and decoration for every taste and style. After all, living should be fun. However, furniture is not a disposable item in our eyes. KARE CEO Peter Schonhofen says: “They are part of our home, indeed perhaps even part of the family, and they represent a value. We want to preserve that.”
