Spotlight: Vinwood at Decorex Cape Town 2017

The much anticipated yearly Decorex trade show is starting this week from the 27-30 April. Making a return to the stands is Vinwood, a unique furniture company that celebrates the rich history of the Cape Winelands in a way that might surprise you.

Vinwood honours the history of the Cape Winelands

The first recorded colonial history of the Stellenbosch region of the Cape Winelands began in the early days of Dutch settlement in the 1800’s. Recognising the value of the terrain, climate and proximity to the coast of Cape Town’s Atlantic coast, the Dutch and French Huguenot settlers saw the potential of cultivating award-winning wines for local and international sale. This innovation is deeply entwined in our shared history. The 20th century has seen a dramatic incline in wine demands and this successful industry is renowned for their delicious cultivars.

Here is where Vinwood steps in. Take a desire to produce authentic and sophisticated furniture with a surplus of oak wine barrels readily available in the Cape Winelands, and you get a 100% sustainable product with a piece of history embedded in each piece. Made from reclaimed oak, the brilliant design comes from time-honed skills in craftsmanship and a timeless approach to contemporary style.

Vinwood’s select patio range

This year, Vinwood returns to Decorex Cape Town with an exciting new display. For the first time, they will be displaying the sophisticated bedroom suite featuring the solid oak Harmony bed with a headboard made from reclaimed wine barrels. This will be complimented by the Altese bedside tables and chest of drawers, all made predominantly from the reclaimed solid French oak, making each item unique and rich in character.

“ That is why our stand is so different this year, we are presenting our furniture in context of the rooms in which each item works best,” explains owner and lead designer Jianni Geras. The signature Vinsanto dining table and range of dining chairs, server tables, coffee tables and mirrors help complete the display. “This year Vinwood is keen to emphasise to customers the fantastic opportunities to integrate its solid, reclaimed wineoak furniture to all rooms in the house, including bedroom, kitchen and bathroom” says Jianni. “Despite difficult economic conditions, our customers understand the value of buying quality made from a sustainable, durable wood that is timeless and will last many generations”. “We have introduced several new products into our range this year and will continue to innovate our extend our range of classic, contemporary furniture both locally and abroad.  In fact, this weekend we are launching our furniture at Grand Designs live in the UK using our WineOak brand,” he concludes.
