It’s a Digital Jungle With Seating and Fabric Bank

What began by chance at the 100% Design show – piqued mutual social media interest – and led to an inspiring meeting of minds and materials.

Digital Jungle, is the brainchild of Seating’s Marketing Manager / Designer; Jacqui Bernstein, and Fabric Bank’s co-founder, Bridgette Sutter. It grew from a shared fascination of forever-cool velvet, and the intense richness and intricacy achieved by direct to textile digital printing. A medley of prints was chosen from Fabric Bank’s Dark Tropical and Neon Succulent ranges, and upholstered on to a selection of original products from Seating’s Nucleus collection.

The bases were upgraded to their latest 4-prong component, and a brand new occasional chair, the Bilboa was introduced. The nature of collaboration injects a revitalised approach to re-see something differently; and both companies anticipate this to be the beginning of a beautiful synchronicity. Seating is a company dedicated to improving the quality of homes, offices and public spaces through the power of design, ergonomics, creativity, and productivity. Since establishing an office and soft-seating divisions four decades ago — they have designed and delivered over six million seats for the corporate, retail and hospitality markets in Africa and abroad. Relatively recently they introduced leading production and materials industry-specialists into the production process. Thpower basease has allowed them the boldness to create expert, holistically developed seating concepts across the board. Boasting the ability to design to spec; other services include engineering, R&D, assembly, quality control, efficient planning (5 assembly and upholstery lines, complex line, fast line) and the capacity to output over 700 chairs daily. Completing the service: they also handle warehousing, dispatch and distribution to markets across Africa. Pioneering local trends, and the ever-changing needs of lifelong customers — they embrace a potent vision to shape the future through precisely engineered ergonomics and sophisticated aesthetics. Products to enrich lives. Products to create an impact in visionary product design, skills empowerment, and the careful consideration of their environmental legacy. Fabric Bank on the other hand started out as an importer of digitally printed fabrics in 2014 and has developed into something much more. In 2016, after a noticeable gap in the market place, Fabric Bank introduced in-house printing for clients. Fabric Bank offers bespoke digital printing and specializes in direct textile printing for all types of applications, varying from clothing to upholstery. This unique business offering does not only close a gap in the South African market but aims to create a local and international platform for artists and illustrators to showcase their work and potentially cross over to other artistic and creative avenues. They focus on the development of local design and aim to assist all clients to achieve their vision. They offer a service and platform that go hand in hand and hope to be able to promote and discover as much untapped talent as possible. Their vision on their shared workspace, Design Office, is simple: to create a hub of design for people from all creative backgrounds, which is affordable, in a hot spot design area and allows the tenants to be exposed to different aspects of design that they might not be familiar with. The Design Office opened its doors in February 2017. Contact: Seating
